/>p1:Manish,please take a seatme(about to sit down)
p3:What are you doing??
me(sit down comfortably first and with a smile):I am giving the Interview for IIMA
p1,p2,p3 start laughing,I respond with a smile
p2:Manish,What are you doing?(with a smile)
Me:I am pursuing a btech degree in ECE
p3:which College
Me:IIT Guwahati
p1:How old is your IIT??
Me:12years
p2 to p1:Its not an even an IIT even NIT is better than IIT Guwahati
Me:I am sorry sir,I dont agree with what you said
p3:Justify yourself
Me:Placements,MS-PHD,JEE ke funde maare
p2:I am not convinced I still think NIT is better than IIT Guwahati
p1,p2 start laughing
p3:Justify yourself more
Me:Faculty is dedicated...Experienced faculty from other IITs ,people who wanna teach ....funde
p1:So you are judging the professors of IITG here.Who do you think you are???
Me(quiet)....p3 stares at me and writes down something
p2:Which Electives have you taken this sem
Me:Computer Control,Neural Networks,Smart Antennaes
p1:what is neural networks??
Me:Funde
p1:So if the data is given random will u get the same results ??
Me:No,the learning will be different....
p3:So if the grades you scored were in ascending order would that form a diff. impression on us??
Me:No sir,I dont think so,since you will observe the final GPA...
p1,p2,p3 start laughing
p2:What is that???(pointing to a regulator)
Me:A regulator
p1:what is its use
Me:To control the level of the fan or the chandelier
p2:Ok how is that done???
Me:Converts Mechanical energy to electrical signal then sends through wire, the chandelier receives the energy and reconverts to light energy depending on the strength of the signal
p1:How will you set up a wireless link??
Me;Use Infra Red...
p3:Whats that
Me:Explain....
p1:What kind of receiver will u use??
Me:The normal 2 pin IR- receiver
p2:have you seen those circular receivers in telephone antennaes???WHy are they used??Me:To maximise the absorption of signal
p2:Then why use a rectangular receiver??
Me:Dont Know, probably there is a specification to optimise some other parameters
p2:What frequency range does IR emit??
Me:In Mhz,I think(Galat jawaab)
P1:Dont u think the heat energy from the chandelier will affect the IR receiver??
Me:I think we can compensate that by using a temp. dependent resistor bridge.
p2:Write the formula for fourier transform..
Me:Write it down
p2:Write down properties of fourier transform
Me:Write down 4...one of which is the parsevals relation
p2:This relation is not derived from the fourier transform...
Me:yes, sir it is in signal processing...
p2:I did not ask you for signal processing derivations.Prove Fourier(Fourier(f(x)))=f(-x)
Me(tried but could not):I am sorry sir.
p3:Are you an actor
Me:No
p3:Then why do you have dramatics on your extracurriculars
Me:coz I participated
p3:So are you interested in drama??
Me:Yes,Sir
p2:Last drama you saw???
Me:Dont get opportunity at Guwahati, named one I saw as A kid
p1:tell us about it
Me:sorry sir I was only 4yrs old
p3:Read any drama??
Me:Shakepeare
p2:Which Play
Me:The Merchant of Venice
p1:Did u read the merchant of venice anywhere on the way to this interview
Me:No sir
p2:Are u sure
Me:Yes,Sir
p3:You might not have noticed...
Me:I am sure sir I was observing my surroundings
p1:Where were you staying??
WHAT HAVE WE GAINED FROM IIT???

A very simple question for many iitians. The answer being the IIT Logo,The efficacy of which is evident in the many jobs and MS/PHD/MBA offers IITIANs end up getting. Is that all,I was wondering one day.One of my friends bought up the point that IITs give us a very competitive environment academically, they give us challenges which most of us have not faced before, they give us exposure, they give us infrastructure.

In my opinion, though these things are easily achievable in any other engineering college(except fer the competition, maybe),so what have i learnt in 4yrs living with guys one among who could be the next narayan murthy or maybe a level above him also.Thoughts that came into mind were discipline and academic brilliance, then i thought i never gained all that here. What did i learn???I thought more....then i realised the most important thing IIT life has given me in life is a killer instinct,a confidence,an identity for myself.IITs dont teach you all this,it just comes involuntarily to every individual, guys who had not seen a computer before walk out as software professionals, guys who could not even communicate effectively walk out and become leaders of top companies. How does this happen??Simple, give a man a gun and he could be more dangerous than any lion,IITs give us this gun in the form of their LOGO.

Another thing IITs give their students involuntarily, amongst the enormous amount of technical knowledge is the responsibilty towards the society. When an IITian comes to IIT he realises that he is among one of those people god has selected to come here.He does not have to break any rules to lead a comfortable life.Thats precisely what he does,he takes the right paths in life.

So,what does IIT take from its students in return, one wonders???To start off IIT takes away 4 yrs of normal college life enjoyment(Dating, partying etc.),this is where most IITians lose their confidence. No matter, who the guy is,IITians are not great with the girls as soon as they are out of college.Obviously they are the cream of the country's brains so most of them learn quickly, and make up for the lost time, the rest get frustrated and finally decide they have earned too much money and decide to get married to a beautiful girl.

What else does IIT take away or give,IITs make people more practical,or in other words less emotional. How??It gives people an opportunity to think about some really serious stuff->Their Future.Obviously, the peer pressure, the seniors performances all these things add up making people more and more serious about their Future. There is a myth that IITians are not street smart,I totally disagree with the statement. In my opinion most top IITians are street smart, unfortunately you dont get to see them in INDIA....coz they are all earning their bucks in the US of A.

In conclusion,I would like to add that though IITians are thought of by 'the others' as proud, show offs, lazy geeks most of them are nt and being an IITian myself,I think the ones
that are proud deserve to do that because after all, they won a battle about 2 lakh people loose every year....THE IITJEE entrance and if becoming a lazy geek is the way to become a successful individual then they are not at fault!!!

The virtues of Loneliness:-

A very famous man once said "Man is a social Animal" many people agreed with him then. This statement led to what we call the society now.Just assume this argument was not stated by anyone, there is distinct chance that humans in this world would not have heard about terms such as friends and marriages.Everybody would lead a life of his own. This is precisely where we are heading towards in this modern world, with people heading towards more individualistic goals. The term "I need my space",is becoming more and more common these days.

The point is "Is loneliness a boon or not",Is the whole concept of having a society justified or not.
Every person has felt at some point in his life that he needs some space for himself to ponder to explore his goals. Some people like me face the scenario more often than others. So what exactly does this state of loneliness do to a person.Usually it is a way for the person to relax and think about his life, get over the everyday tensions. What this little time spent alone also does is give the person sometime to rise above the concept of the society and realise what he or she really wants to do.I use this loneliness whenever I cannot take an important decision and always come up with a resounding answer to my question.Sounds greek???Well, you have to try this then....some kind of soothing music(Enigma is my choice),sit in front of your computer in a deserted room, preferably in the night when everyone is asleep.Sounds crazy but it works!!!

Coming back to the society concept. We all are aware that teamwork makes jobs easier hence the society is a boon, but if someday you think about the evils society has you would be astonished.Society teaches you to beg, borrow or steal.Society teaches you to lie.Society teaches you to cheat.Society teaches you to discriminate. And above all society makes you its slave.

In conclusion let me add though many of you would feel that abolishing the concept of society would make people really lonely and emotionless, but let us also realise that this whole concept of emotions and loneliness has been created by the society,if we give up the society than we can overcome all the constraints that the society has inflicted upon us and do what our heart desires.Give it a thought and if the concept does not sound appealing mail me:mjha@iitg.ernet.in
maybe I could shed some light on the whole thing.

The other Side of life:-

There are 2 sides of life....we are always on one side the side from which we see the other side and dream, the side which motivates us to fight our way to the other side of life. The side which caters to the requirements of many aspirants who want to goto the other side.Is there a way to go to the other side is the question??

Before we start the discussion, let us examine the people for whom there is another side.Mostly people with moderate happiness in life, people with dynamic goals, people of all ages. From small kids who want to become gr8 filmstars or cricketers,To skool kids who wanna become casinovas,To college kids who wanna become rich,To married people who want to be happier.Everyone has another side to go to.Everyone dreams of what they want to achieve every1 fights for something or the other. The only people who dont have another side in their life are those who have never fought their battles or are too gifted to ever loose any battle in life, coz these are the people for whom getting to the other side does not carry any importance, they do
not cherish the fact that they are alive,They dont look at others and say I wish he gets wat he wants.Everybody wants to be like them but they dont want to be like anybody.

Now coming to the other side, for many it may mean a good family life,to others it may mean lots of money and a comfortable life,to still others it may mean getting a job of their choice,to a few others it may mean achieving some other goal,to me it means creating an identity for myself in this world of many billion people. An identity that would make people say 10years down the line,I was that guys classmate,I saw that guy in school,he was from my brothers batch at college.Achieving such a goal might seem very broad, for that matter it may have many paths. My path is still to be decided!!Life is a maze you have to find your way out from the shortest path, thats precisely wat i am doing now, finding the shortest path...I am sure I will get to the other side, all I need is some rope to hold on to...some lift to climb up on.I know my other side is not far away but wat I also know is I have to get their quick so that getting their could be worth the effort. If you think getting their is easy, then you know you will,if not you never will get their. My hopes and dreams are my own,I hope they are fulfilled and so are the dreams of all others who have the courage and heart to dream of going to the other side, coz as the old saying goes "The grass is greener on the other side"!!!
Amen
<img width='1' height='1' had shattered has been restored with my CRACKING THE CAT,and looking back at the last sem honestly i am pretty astonished myself.

Anyways too much work and 2 lil musings have killed my imaginative mind for the moment and plus my restrain from alcohol in support of prep. fer IIM Gd/Pis has killed the smooth working of my brain. All i can think of rite now is to get to bed type='text'>

I wish I had a girlfriend....

I always thought how people can be satisfied with one girl all their lives but 2 failed relationships down the line i honestly feel now that its always better to have the perfect girl next door to fall in love with..someone who is not only your girl friend but someone who does understand you someone you can trust with your eyes closed.......

Anways life is life so you gotta face it you dont have a girlfriend....now wat do u do..3 ways of looking at it....one trying fer a grl which most ppl do at some level for example flirting on the phone chatting orkutting and trying to meet new people at cult fests......and stuff like that...finally they end up not succeeding and get more frustrated take the wrong decisions and get into trouble....I was part of this team for a long time i guess .The other way to solve the problem is convince yourself that you dont need a girlfriend....I never actually did this but i guess it would be next to impossible doing something like this especially if your in an age group where having a girlfriend is also a social status. The 3rd way of doing it is something super which is a mixture of the 2 ways ....convince yourself that you can get any girl you want try for a couple of hotties see yourself loose and then it would be pretty clear for you not to worry about girls.......

My honest opinion of indian girls has never been of very high esteem...I have never actually seen a girl sacrifice for her friends or do something that could earn her some respect hence it always seems a little odd to me when some of my female friends say that MANISH YOU DONT RESPECT GIRLS i always wanna do it but it does not come logically to me......

Coming back to the aspect of having a girlfriend.......the best part in all the romantic boring conversations that i had with my past GFs i guess was the bitching i got to hear from them about their friends and especially that one girl whom she saw me talking to the last time i was in her college....It is at times kinda comical and guys you must try this sometime....If your smart enuf you will realise that all girls are infinitely more jealous of their counterparts in comparison to us guys....in fact at times you might even see your girl pointing false accusations at you to justify her point!!!

The worst aspect about having a girlfriend is you gotta pretend a lot coz face it she is a girl after all you cant tell her you smoked a lot or that you didnt feel like having the shit food in the mess....she s gonna kill you and wait till you tell a girl that u got a mild bruise or something they get all super sympathetic and all.....I guess its part of the ploy to make us happy but its super difficult for me to understand why they expect the same from us when we dont feel like doing it.

Another positive aspect about having a girlfriend is well....the physical part...admit it or not at one level all guys are a lil horny and one of their motives all along is to get into the pants of the girl they are with.....I have seen guys latch out plans with their friends on how to get their girl laid but those were the real bastardy types i guess.....anyways but every body gets their share of the cake......and rite then i guess i felt more than having the cake it was always better to feel that the cake is mine.....I guess many guys would agree with me if i say guys are possesive and this statement is the unifying factor for all of them

HOT CHICKS:-

a favourite topic among many guys within the age group of 14-27 i guess....my first take on hot chicks....stay away from them.....dont embarass yourself in front of them and finally never fail to take advantage if u still get attention.

Rule#1
Stay away from them
why should i stay from a hot chick and watch some other sucker who does not have half as much brain as me and who does not look gud either take away the chick....very simple "Life is repulsive" watever u go for goes away from u....if u r the one that approaches the chick the chick takes you for granted too her self valuation is raised and she thinks that uska level badh gayaa hai that guys like u are after her....so just dont get onto her...and please never ever praise a beautiful chick ......in the first meeting.....hadh dimaag pe chadh jaati hain yaar....infact i know a lotta friends with beautiful GFs but still they all are like really depressed from inside coz of all the additional stuff they need to do maintain the GF....ask u r self whether the girl is gud enuf before even thinking about flirting or anything.......

Rule # 2
dont embarass ur self in front of them.......
you embarass your self when you pay the bill on the first meeting without asking her for her share.....you embarass yourself when u try becoming the knight in shining armour and bring her an umbrella in the rain by getting yourself drenched you embarasss yourself when you do her work at the expense of your own work.....dont ever do it....because this will become a habit and sooner or later you will realize that you cannot cope up with your life because of these small mistakes you made.......

Rule #3
dont fail to take advantage if u still get the attention
I guess this is pretty obvious that even after following the 1st 2 rules a chick is giving you attention means that she is not interested in your money or your physical appearance its your attitude she likes and your personality that impresses her....My friend this is your chance give her a little bit of importance ideally a little bit more than wat she is giving you ......bring her flowers take her out for surprise movies or dinner ....try knowing her in the process.....definitely this will keep her on the same level as you in terms of importance in the relationship and the 2 of u will have a healthy relationship

The CAT fever:-
Yeah its on and it has been for the last 3 months atleast for me ......the one thing i fail to understand though is why CAT?I really dont know and assuming that I am doing pretty well and would be very unlucky if i dont get through the writtens atleast this year i guess not more than 20 percent of the ppl giving cat every year know why.I mean every 1 could say that management is the hep thing these days and there is a large demand for managers and thats wat i wanna do and stuff like that but in reality they all are only looking for IIMs for a good job in terms of money. Is money the only thing that counts in this world because it is very hard to believe that every year out of the youth in india there are about 2 lakh people who would be ready to be a manager instead of some other profession if they get the same amount of money. This is probably the main fallacy of our system that has resulted in the huge gap between the poor and the rich in this country. Why can we not standardise work and let every 1 choose wat they want to do instead of forcing them to change their priorities for money......Inspite of all these beliefs i still cannot do anything about it because i know if i dont get into an IIM another guy like me will and he will probably be my boss in a company ....

OK so this is my first post......I am not really gud at this but coz a friend told me its a good pass time i decided to start....anyways i am going to write this like a real diary.

after spending a whole night boozing away in the morning i attended my 1st class half drunk it was a really guilt filled scenario but hey i tell you its always easy to get thru a class drunk ...you wud not know how time passes.......anyways i caught up on some sleep and by tthe time i woke up i had missed about an hour of my lab so i decided to fill up my CAT form instead and go a lil more later.By the time i reached the lab every 1 was ready to leave so i came back to the hostel and slept some more.

Finally i did something productive read as studying fer a quiz and thats the end of another boring day of my life.well life can get monotonous at times but i guess having seen a little bit of the finer parts of life over the summer in the UK this monotony can at some level motivate you to go ahead and fight harder. They say that the grass is always greener on the other side but you have to see the grass before you actually say that.Anyways As of now i am motivating myself to keep to a consistent lifestyle so as to do well in this final year here at IIT guwahati because i know more than anyone in this world that no matter how hard you work how many nights you dont sleep if you dont win you dont win.I guess thats been my thinking for a long time now.Thats how i have reached here and thats how i am going to go further.I guess there are a few things in life that can shake your belief in yourself like being labelled an alcoholic or getting a bad grade or some bad luck but you have to move on and accept your flaws and try to better yourself at all levels.

Life is a race you have to keep running because if you look back you fall on your face......<div
